Lake Placid

When you hear someone talking about the great outdoors, they must be talking about the Adirondacks and Lake Placid. Lush. Breathtaking. Pristine. Tranquil. Words that seem to be exaggerations elsewhere, but fit this region perfectly.
The Adirondack Park is one of the world’s great wilderness frontiers. Forged 10,000 years ago by shifting glaciers, its landscape is one of soaring mountains, sweeping blue lakes, mighty rivers and dense forests abundant with wildlife. At 6.1 million acres, it is America’s largest state park outside of Alaska; it covers more ground than the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone Parks combined. Set amid the awe-inspiring mountains and forests of this great land are more than 30,000 miles of rivers and streams, and nearly 2,500 lakes.
The Adirondack Mountains are many, varied and massive. The tallest are in the Lake Placid area, with many peaks rising above 4,000 feet. Called the “High Peaks,” region, these mountains include Whiteface, Algonquin and March.
Lake Placid has a long history as a recreation & wilderness destination... and today, it’s where the great outdoors collides joyfully with culture and art. Lake Placid is the area’s resort and recreation center. Set in the heart of mountain and lake country, this quaint village was the site of 2 Olympic Winter Games, in 1932 and again in 1980, when the US Olympic Hockey Team won the gold medal! Throughout the town, you’ll find interesting shops, fine dining, plus a host of fun and cultural experiences. Lake Placid is home to Olympic ski jumps, a bobsled track and bustling horse show grounds.
Whiteface Mountain is only ten minutes from The Reserve and has been rated the #1 Ski Area in the Eastern US by Ski Magazine three years in a row! Here, you’ll find some of North America’s best alpine skiing & snowboarding. Whiteface has the greatest vertical drop this side of the Rockies and is the only Eastern ski area to host the Olympic Winter Games.
Amenities abound during all four seasons… and whether it is skiing in one of Eastern North America’s most popular ski resort or enjoying outdoor activities such as golf, horseback riding, biking, rafting, and tennis, or just relaxing within the majestic setting of this mountain paradise... The Reserve has it all. |
